In the story, Sudarshan’s romantic advances are rejected by Shobha, driving him to attempt suicide by drinking what he believes to be poison. As he begins to sing his apparent final lament, he realises that the supposed poison has only rendered him invisible. Sudarshan then uses his invisibility to torment the woman who had spurned him. This transformation occurs during the verse “teri gali mein aata sanam.” Shobha can hear his voice but cannot see him, so believes she is being haunted by his spirit.
