Agneepath Translation of Harivansh Rai Bachchan Poem

Agneepath – Harivansh Rai Bachchan Poem Translated in English

Meta Description:  Agneepath is a poem by Harivansh Rai Bachchan used in the Bollywood film of the same name, starring Amitabh Bachchan. Enjoy the translation and explanation.

Setting the Background for Translating Agneepath

Agneepath (which translates to "The Path of Fire") is an iconic and motivational poem by renowned Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan. The poem was memorably featured in Yash Johar's film of the same name, where a father instils in his young son the philosophy that life is a relentless path of fire—one that must be pursued without surrender. In the film, the son grows up to be portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan, the legendary actor and the poet's real-life son. Decades later, when Karan Johar remade his father’s film with a new cast, he honoured the original by preserving the powerful poem.

This remains one of Bollywood's most enduring tributes to Hindi literature, immortalizing Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s stirring words on the silver screen. I am glad to translate it on World Poetry Day, 2025.

The Poetic English Translation of the Poem Agneepath

Trees could be tall and stout

Dense foliage, boughs spread out

Shade from one leaf

Don’t avail! Don’t avail!

Fire trail! Fire trail! Fire trail!

You will not lose your zest

You will not take a rest

Do not turn back

Do not fail! Do not fail!

Fire trail! Fire trail! Fire trail!

This is a sight fit for Gods

Man struggling against all odds

With tears, sweat, blood

You’ll prevail! You’ll prevail!

Fire trail! Fire trail! Fire trail!

The Original Hindi Poem Agneepath

Vriksh hon bhale khade,
Hon ghane, hon bade,
Ek patra chhanv bhi
Maang mat! Maang mat! Maang mat!
Agneepath! Agneepath! Agneepath!

Tu na thakega kabhi,
Tu na thamega kabhi,
Tu na mudega kabhi,
Kar shapath! Kar shapath! Kar shapath!
Agneepath! Agneepath! Agneepath!

Yeh mahaan drishya hai,
Chal raha manushya hai,
Ashru, swed, rakt se
Lath-path, lath-path, lath-path,
Agneepath! Agneepath! Agneepath!

The Literal English Translation of Agneepath

The trees could be standing tall

Could be dense and huge

Even shade from one leaf

Do not ask for

Walk through the path of fire

You will never tire

You will never stop

You will never turn back

Make this promise

Walk through the path of fire

This is a grand sight

Man is marching ahead

With tears, sweat, and blood

Sodden to the skin

Walk through the path of fire

Dil Aakhir Tu Kyun Rota Hai Javed Akhtar Poem Translated

Dil Aakhir Tu Kyun Rota Hai – Bollywood Poem Translated

Meta Description: Dil Aakhir Tu Kyun Rota Hai is poem by Javed Akhtar recited by Farhan Akhtar in the male bonding movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Enjoy the English translation.

Setting the Background for Translating Dil Aakhir Tu Kyon Rota Hai

In celebration of World Poetry Day 2025, Bollywood Translations is proud to present poetic English translations of all the short poems from the iconic male-bonding film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
The second poem in this series, Dil Aakhir Tu Kyon Rota Hai, beautifully conveys the message that both sadness and joy, like shadow and sunshine, are inseparable parts of life. It encourages us not to despair when things don't go as planned, reminding us that every emotion has its place in the journey of life.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Dil Aakhir Tu Kyon Rota Hai

When the clouds of distress appear

When the shadows of sadness sneer

When from your eye emerges a tear

When the lonely soul is with fear

Then I say to my heart look here

Why cry, there is nothing amiss

The world always behaves like this

These deep silences spread like pall

Time has disbursed to one and all

There’s some sadness to each person

Some happiness to everyone

Your eyes are moist for no reason

Each moment is a new season

Do not give up moments like this

Why cry, there is nothing amiss

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Dil Aakhir Tu Kyun Rota Hai from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Jab jab dard ka baadal chaya
Jab ghum ka saya lehraya
Jab aansoo palkon tak aya
Jab yeh tanha dil ghabraya
Humne dil ko yeh samjhaya

Dil aakhir tu kyun rota hai
Duniya mein yunhi hota hai

Yeh jo gehre sannate hain
Waqt ne sabko hi baatey hain
Thoda ghum hai sabka kissa
Thodi dhoop hai sabka hissa
Aankh teri bekaar hi nam hai
Har pal ek naya mausam hai

Kyun tu aise pal khota hai
Dil aakhir tu kyu rota hai

Toh Zinda Ho Tum Javed Akhtar Bollywood Poem Translated

Toh Zinda Ho Tum – Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Poem Translated

Meta Description: Toh Zinda Ho Tum is a poem by Javed Akhtar recited by Farhan Akhtar in the movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Enjoy the English translation of this Bollywood poem.

Setting the Background for Translating Toh Zinda Ho Tum

Songs have been an integral part of Bollywood films since the 1940s, and it is rare to find a Hindi film without them. However, occasionally, a movie features the recitation of poetry, adding a unique layer to its narrative. In celebration of World Poetry Day 2025, I pay tribute to these poetic gems by translating some of them at Bollywood Translations.

I begin with the remarkable work of poet Javed Akhtar from the movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (translated as "You Won't Get This Life Again"). This film celebrates male bonding, and the zest for life. Toh Zinda Ho Tum is one of the poems, which emphasizes the importance of chasing your dreams and truly living each moment to the fullest.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Toh Zinda Ho Tum

If within your hearts intense eagerness gleams then know

That you are alive!

If your gaze displays the lightning of your dreams then know

That you are alive!

Learn to be as free as the unfettered gusts of breeze

Learn to flow like the majestic waves on the seas

Greet every moment with arms open in an embrace

Every second a new experience you try to face

If within your eyes you carry wondrous streams then know

That you are alive!

If within your hearts intense eagerness gleams then know

That you are alive!

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Toh Zinda Ho Tum from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Dilon mein tum apni betabiyan leke chal rahe ho.

Toh zinda ho tum!

Nazar mein khwaabon ki bijliyan leke chal rahe ho

Toh zinda ho tum!

Hawa ke jhonkon ke jaise aazad rehna seekho

Tum ek dariya ke jaise, leharon mein behna seekho

Har ek lamhe se tum milo khole apni baahein

Har ek pal ek naya samaa dekhe yeh nigaahen

Jo apni aankhon mein hairaniyan leke chal rahe ho

Toh zinda ho tum!

Dilon mein tum apni betabiyan leke chal rahe ho.

Toh zinda ho tum!

Meanings of Important Urdu Words

Hairani = Wonder
Betabi = Eagerness
