Phir Se Lyrics Explained and Translated from Dhurandhar 2

Phir Se – Explanation and Translation of Dhurandhar 2 Song

Meta Description:  Phir Se is a background song from Dhurandhar 2 with lyrics by Irshad Kamil and sung by Arijit Singh. Get the correct interpretation and translation here.

Setting the Background for Translating Phir Se

Many sources interpret Phir Se as Hamza Ali Mazari (Ranveer Singh) reminiscing about his wife, Yalina Jamali (Sara Arjun), after his identity as a spy is exposed and he is tragically separated from her. While a few lines in the song may seem to support this reading, it does not fully hold up. Several lines do not align with that situation, and the emotional ground of that separation is already more directly captured in Aakhri Ishq.

A more consistent interpretation emerges when we consider the context in which Phir Se actually plays. The background song accompanies Jaskirat Singh Ranghi, now free from his identity as Hamza, as he returns to his village in Punjab. The visuals strongly suggest that he is reflecting not on his lost marriage, but on the life that he left behind before becoming a spy. This earlier life had been the source of both his sustenance and his torment during the long years of isolation in a hostile environment. As Jaskirat revisits his past, he is confronted with the painful realization that he can never return to it. That recognition brings tears to his eyes again he accepts that his sorrows will linger on.

Read the lyrics with the “Tu” (you) referring not to his wife but to the family he left behind.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Phir Se

When you weren’t there, I was always

Talking with your memories

Fragrant were the paths that I was

Walking with your memories

I don’t know how

Again eyes grew teary

Realised somehow

Sorrows had ended

Heart cannot believe

Again eyes grew teary

Realised somehow

Sorrows had ended

Heart cannot believe

Again eyes grew teary

Realised somehow

Sorrows had ended

Heart cannot believe

Again eyes grew teary

Realised somehow

Sorrows had ended

Heart cannot believe

‘Gain

In loneliness the one who would

Torment me and make me cry

Was no stranger but only was

Your memories of days gone by

There was no one else only you

Who with me step-by-step keep pace

In your absence loneliness

Slept with me in arms embrace

I never thought I ever would

Remember you in this way

When before you I did not think

That doubts on my mind would play

I don’t know how

Again eyes grew teary

Realised somehow

Sorrows had ended

Heart cannot believe

Again eyes grew teary

Realised somehow

Sorrows had ended

Heart cannot believe

Again eyes grew teary

Realised somehow

Sorrows had ended

Heart cannot believe

Again eyes grew teary

Realised somehow

Sorrows had ended

Heart cannot believe

‘Gain

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Phir Se from Dhurandhar 2

Jo Tu Na Tha Karte The Hum
Baatein Teri Yaadon Se
Mehki Hui Meri Sabhi
Raahen Teri Yaadon Se

Jaane Kaise
Phir Se Naina Bhare
Samjhe The Hum
Gham Hai Khatam
Dil Hi Na Maane
Phir Se Naina Bhare
Samjhe The Hum
Gham Hai Khatam
Dil Hi Na Maane
Phir Se Naina Bhare
Samjhe The Hum
Gham Hai Khatam
Dil Hi Na Maane
Phir Se Naina Bhare
Samjhe The Hum
Gham Hai Khatam
Dil Hi Na Maane
Phir

Tanhai Mein Jisne Mujhko
Jee Bhar Ke Tadpaya Tha
Aur Nahi Tha Koi
Woh Teri Yaadon Ka Saaya Tha
Tere Siwa Na Koi Tha
Jo Saathi Ho Raahon Mein
Jab Tu Na Tha Tanhaia
Simti Meri Baahon Mein

Socha Na Tha Aise Humein
Tera Khayal Aayega
Yun Saamne Tere Humein
Pehle Sawaal Aayega

Jaane Kaise
Phir Se Naina Bhare
Samjhe The Hum
Gham Hai Khatam
Dil Hi Na Maane
Phir Se Naina Bhare
Samjhe The Hum
Gham Hai Khatam
Dil Hi Na Maane
Phir Se Naina Bhare
Samjhe The Hum
Gham Hai Khatam
Dil Hi Na Maane
Phir Se Naina Bhare
Samjhe The Hum
Gham Hai Khatam
Dil Hi Na Maane
Phir

The Literal English Translation of the Lyrics of Phir Se

When you weren’t there (when I was away from you all – my family)

I used to talk to my memories of you

The (lonely) paths that I used to walk

Were made fragrant with your memories

I don’t know how

My eyes got teary again

I had thought

My sorrows had ended

(With my homecoming)

But my heart cannot accept

(That I cannot join my family)

My eyes got teary again

In my loneliness who had

Tormented me a lot

Was no one else

But (the shadow) of your memories

There was no one but you

Who could be a companion in my journey

When you were not there

I had to embrace the loneliness

I had not thought that this way

I would remember you

That in your presence I

Would first question (my intent of coming home)
