Mitti Ke Bete Translation and Explanation of Border 2 Song

Mitti Ke Bete – Lyrical Translation of Border 2 New Hit Song

Meta Description:  Mitti Ke Bete is a Bollywood song written for Border 2. The lyricist is Manoj Muntashir, composer is Mithoon, and singer is Sonu Nigam. Enjoy the translation.

Setting the Background for Translating Mitti Ke Bete

Border 2 released on January 23, 2026 to record box office collections. Central to any war epic is the martyrdom of the soldiers on the battlefront. This song is an ode to those sons of Mother India who did not return home. Manoj Muntashir’s lyrics resonate with Kavi Pradeep’s classic kuchh yaad unhe bhi kar lo jo laut ke ghar na aaye, the Bollywood Translation of which can be read here.

The poetic translation closely follows the original lyrics and therefore a literal translation is not provided. Instead I will explain certain nuances of the poignant lyrics that may be missed by the casual reader.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Mitti Ke Bete

So wild of heart, so carefree they

So wild of heart, so carefree they

They laughed straight in the face of death

With the nation ensconced in their hearts

They wore the shroud upon their breath

When the tricolour we will raise

Their heroics on our minds will blaze

The sons born of the soil those who did not return

Those who did not return the sons born of the soil

Daring and undaunted those who did not return

Those who did not return the sons born of the soil

The sons born of this soil

O! sons of the soil

O! sons of the soil

The sons born of this soil

For which our hero Bhagat Singh

Did the hangman’s noose prefer

We have not let that be tarnished

Our pure unstained tricolour

Our pure unstained tricolour

Our pure unstained tricolour

Father your pain is yours to bear

Father your pain is yours to bear

My joy knows no bounds I can say

In whose lap I played as a child

He is my pall bearer today

When our sons the enemy will face

Their heroics on our minds will blaze

The sons born of the soil those who did not return

Those who did not return the sons born of the soil

Daring and undaunted those who did not return

Those who did not return the sons born of the soil

The sons born of this soil

Deceiver you did not tell us

That our buddies you will deceive

The rising sun we called our own

Would set and leave us here to grieve

Would set and leave us here to grieve

Would set and leave us here to grieve

And without you from the border

And without you from the border

Broken hearted we all will leave

In your pyre a part of us

Will burn and never be retrieved

When friends meet in joyous embrace

Their heroics on our minds will blaze

The sons born of the soil those who did not return

Those who did not return the sons born of the soil

Daring and undaunted those who did not return

Those who did not return the sons born of the soil

The sons born of this soil

There are pains that do not go away

Some in exile will forever roam

We waited for them with baited breath

Alas some Rama’s did not return home

Alas some Rama’s did not return home

Alas some Rama’s did not return home

Pour a drink in my name father

Pour a drink in my name father

And sip it when it is rainy

I am no longer in this world

But you can live my youth for me

When the Jana Gana Mana anthem plays

Their heroics on our minds will blaze

The sons born of the soil those who did not return

Those who did not return the sons born of the soil

Daring and undaunted those who did not return

Those who did not return the sons born of the soil

The sons born of this soil

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Mitti Ke Bete from Border 2

Kya Mann Mauji Befikre The
Kya Mann Mauji Befikre The
Maut Pe Apne Hanste The
Dil Mein Watan Ko Rakhne Wale
Sar Pe Kafan Bhi Rakhte The

Hum Jo Tiranga Lehrayenge
Hichki Banke Yaad Aayenge
Wo Mitti Ke Bete Jo Wapas Na Laute
Jo Wapas Na Laute Wo Mitti Ke Bete
Wo Banke Albele Jo Wapas Na Laute
Jo Wapas Na Laute Wo Mitti Ke Bete
Is Mitti Ke Bete

O! Mitti Ke Bete
O! Mitti Ke Bete
Is Mitti Ke Bete

Jiske Liye Sardar Hamara
Jhool Gaya Tha Phande Par
Dhool Nahi Lagne Di Humne
Us Bedaag Tirange Par
Us Bedaag Tirange Par
Us Bedaag Tirange Par

Tera Dard Tu Jaane Baba
Tera Dard Tu Jaane Baba
Main To Khushi Se Pagal Hoon
Jiski Godi Mein Khela Main
Chala Usi Ke Kandhe Par

Laadle Jab Sarhad Jaayenge
Hichki Banke Yaad Aayenge
Wo Mitti Ke Bete Jo Wapas Na Laute
Jo Wapas Na Laute Wo Mitti Ke Bete
Wo Banke Albele Jo Wapas Na Laute
Jo Wapas Na Laute Wo Mitti Ke Bete
Is Mitti Ke Bete

O Chhaliye Kahan Pata Tha
Tu Yaaron Ko Chhal Jaayega
Jo Chadhta Sooraj Tha Apna
Wo Aise Dhal Jaayega
Wo Aise Dhal Jaayega
Wo Aise Dhal Jaayega

Tere Bin Sarhad Se Hum Bhi
Tere Bin Sarhad Se Hum Bhi
Aadhe-Adhoore Lautenge
Teri Chita Mein Dheere Se
Kuch Apna Bhi Jal Jaayega

Yaar Gale Jab Lag Jaayenge
Hichki Banke Yaad Aayenge
Wo Mitti Ke Bete Jo Wapas Na Laute
Jo Wapas Na Laute Wo Mitti Ke Bete
Wo Banke Albele Jo Wapas Na Laute
Jo Wapas Na Laute Wo Mitti Ke Bete
Is Mitti Ke Bete

Kuchh Dard Kabhi Sote Hi Nahi
Vanvaas Khatam Hote Hi Nahin
Chaukhat Pe Diye Jalte Hi Rahe
Kuchh Rama Kabhi Laute Hi Nahi
Kuchh Rama Kabhi Laute Hi Nahi
Kuchh Rama Kabhi Laute Hi Nahi

Mere Naam Ka Pyaala Bhar Ke
Mere Naam Ka Pyaala Bhar Ke
Barsaaton Mein Pee Lena
Baba Main To Raha Nahi
Tu Meri Jawani Jee Lena

Hum Jab Jan Gan Man Gaayenge
Hichki Banke Yaad Aayenge
Wo Mitti Ke Bete Jo Wapas Na Laute
Jo Wapas Na Laute Wo Mitti Ke Bete
Woh Maa Ke Albele Jo Wapas Na Laute
Jo Wapas Na Laute Woh Mitti Ke Bete
Is Mitti Ke Bete

Meanings of Difficult Words

For some of these words I have not used the perfectly nuanced translations so that I maintain the rhyme, rhythm, and metre of the original. The exact meanings are being provided below.

Mann mauji = Self-willed
Befikre = Without a care
Kafan = Shroud
Hichki = Hiccups
Banke = Stylish
Jhool Gaya = Swung
Phanda = Noose
Bedaag = Unstained
Kandha = Shoulder
Laadle = Darlings (used generally for sons or daughters)
Sarhad = Border
Chhaliye = Deceiver
Chita = Funeral pyre
Vanvaas = Exile
Chaukhat = Doorstep

The Explanation of the Lyrics of Mitti Ke Bete

Sar Pe Kafan

The literal meaning is wrapping a shroud round the head. This is symbolic of deciding to accomplish a feat or die in the attempt and is a common idiom used for soldiers going to the battlefront.

Hichki Banke Yaad Aayenge

The belief is that we experience hiccups when someone remembers us. The song turns this around to us remembering the brave hearts whenever we have hiccups.

Mitti Ke Bete

The reference is not to sons of the soil but specifically to sons of the soil of Mother India and there is a difference in the two. Since in the song the reference to Mother India is left unsaid, I have followed suit.

Jiske Liye Sardar Hamara
Jhool Gaya Tha Phande Par

Literally Sardar would refer to chief or a Sikh and the second line to swinging from the hangman’s noose. Putting the two together, this can only refer to the freedom fighter Bhagat Singh who is a hero of all that have taken up arms in defence of the country, represented anachronistically through its flag.

Tera Dard Tu Jaane Baba
Main To Khushi Se Pagal Hoon
Jiski Godi Mein Khela Main
Chala Usi Ke Kandhe Par

Baba is an affectionate term for father. The biggest tragedy for a father is to be a pall bearer at his son’s funeral. The soul of the martyred soldier acknowledges this but calls it “your problem”. For him the joy of completing his life circle in the lifetime of his father is unparalleled. The song says “played in the father’s lap” but the image in the film shows the child atop his father’s shoulders, which makes the connection even more poignant.

Kuchh Dard Kabhi Sote Hi Nahi
Vanvaas Khatam Hote Hi Nahin
Chaukhat Pe Diye Jalte Hi Rahe
Kuchh Rama Kabhi Laute Hi Nahi

This is a reference to the epic Ramayana. Rama’s exile was bound to fourteen years. And when the time of his return was due, diyas were lit on every doorstep in Ayodhya to welcome him. In contrast, the ‘exile’ of the soldiers is without end because they sacrificed their lives in the cause of their motherland. Though their family members lit the lamps in expectation of their return, these ‘Ramas’ never came home.

Ghar Kab Aaoge Lyrical Translation of Border 2 2026 New Song

Ghar Kab Aaoge – Poetic Translation of Border 2 Remix Song

Meta Description:  Ghar Kab Aaoge is a remix version of Sandese Aate Hai. It was created by Manoj Muntashir and Mithoon for the sequel Border 2. Enjoy the lyrical translation.

Setting the Background for Translating Ghar Kab Aaoge

Border (1997), produced by J. P. Dutta, went on to become a cult war classic. Central to its enduring appeal was the song Sandese Aate Hai, which poignantly captured the joy, longing, and emotional vulnerability of soldiers stationed on the frontlines as they received letters from home.

The sequel, Border 2, slated for release on January 23, 2026, seeks to rekindle those emotions through a reimagined version of the iconic song, launched as Ghar Kab Aaoge. Lyricist Manoj Muntashir has expanded upon Javed Akhtar’s original words, while composer Mithoon lends a fresh sensibility to Anu Malik’s timeless melody. The new rendition weaves contemporary voices with the original singers, creating a bridge between past and present. Speaking in an interview, Muntashir described the song as an expression of the quiet pain and fragile hope, felt equally by soldiers at the battle lines and by their loved ones waiting at home.

The soldiers render this song. In some verses they imagine what their loved ones are experiencing and in some verses they express their own feelings. In a casual reading this sometimes gets blurred. Also, some lines have been difficult to translate in rhyme, like chauth ki thali. Chauth is a festival in which wives observe a fast for their husbands that is broken after moon rises and the wives see their husband’s faces. The significance of the husband and wife being apart is evident. I have made suitable changes. Chauth ki thali has been replaced by “monsoon swing” to describe another tradition of setting up a swing in the garden during monsoons so that the couple can share intimate moments in the rain.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Ghar Kab Aaoge

Your messages that come

They leave us so lonesome

The letters that you pen

Ask again and again

Home when will you return

Home when will you return

Write when will you return

For without you this house is desolate

Your messages that come

They leave us so lonesome

The letters that you pen

Ask again and again

Home when will you return

Home when will you return

Write when will you return

For without you this heart is desolate

This heart for many years

Was an empty shadow

Now with someone’s coming

Shines with a festive glow

The doors open wide when

They hear his footsteps fall

The sun rises only

After his wake-up call

I often think of this

When I am all alone

That the moon will descend

In the yard of my home

My lucky blessing asks

Dangling earring asks

The monsoon swing asks

So also the

Henna reddening asks

Home when will you return

Home when will you return

Write when will you return

For without you this heart is desolate

Your messages that come

They leave us so lonesome

The letters that you pen

Ask again and again

Home when will you return

Home when will you return

Write when will you return

For without you this house is desolate

Ask of the tears that flow

Down from the brimming eyes

To part from a true love

One has to agonise

I had to leave behind

Mother who gave me birth

For I loved even more

My mother Mother Earth

Someone whispered softly

Please return home again

I wait on tenterhooks

Do not deepen my pain

Nights that lie awake ask

Unexpressed heartaches ask

Promises to break ask

And so also

Her memories unspake ask

Home when will you return

Home when will you return

Write when will you return

For without you this heart is desolate

Often I think of her

At night when in dreamland

Her slender silken wrist

Clasped firmly in my hand

Like an ode to beauty

On my lips she remains

And like rising passion

She surges through my veins

The girl that played with dolls

That doll I remember

When someone speaks of home

I realise I miss her

Well-wishers at home ask

Streets I used to roam ask

Messages on phone ask

And also my

Mates who are alone ask

Home when will you return

Home when will you return

Write when will you return

For without you this heart is desolate

Passing wind listen to what I say

O please do this much for me I pray

Who has left me and has gone away

Go find that mate

Neither any alley nor highway

I searched but could not find till today

That this distance could eliminate

That this distance could eliminate

My entire youth he has stolen from me

And has left me with my eyes teary

That I will repeat throughout my life

He has left me with a sad story

O wind messenger that is passing by

I beg you please do not make me thus cry

Tell me from where such a heart I can buy

That will accept this final goodbye

I will return again

I will return again

To my homely abode

Where love’s debt is owed

To eyes that long for me

Arms hold me lovingly

Path to my family

The promises that I made

Those I will maintain

I will return again

I will return again

I will return again

I will return again

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Ghar Kab Aaoge from Border 2

Sandese Aate Hai
Humein Tadpate Hai
Jo Chitthi Aati Hai
Wo Puche Jati Hai
Ki Ghar Kab Aaoge
Ki Ghar Kab Aaoge
Likho Kab Aaoge
Ki Tum Bin Ye Ghar Soona Soona Hai

Sandese Aate Hai
Humein Tadpate Hai
Jo Chitthi Aati Hai
Wo Puche Jati Hai
Ki Ghar Kab Aaoge
Ki Ghar Kab Aaoge
Likho Kab Aaoge
Ki Tum Bin Ye Dil Soona Soona Hai

Ye Dil Jo Barson Se
Tha Khaali Khaali Sa
Kisi Ke Aane Se
Saja Diwali Sa
Jage Hai Darwaaze
Kisi Ki Aahat Se
Savera Hota Hai
Kisi Ki Karwat Se
Main Sochta Karta Hu
Yahi Tanhaai Mein
Ke Chanda Utrega
Meri Angnaai Mein
Naseebon Wali Ne
Kaan Ki Bali Ne
Chauth Ki Thali Ne
Aur Pucha Hai
Mehndi Ki Lali Ne
Ki Ghar Kab Aaoge
Ki Ghar Kab Aaoge
Likho Kab Aaoge
Ki Tum Bin Ye Dil Soona Soona Hai

Sandese Aate Hai
Humein Tadpate Hai
Jo Chitthi Aati Hai
Wo Puche Jati Hai
Ki Ghar Kab Aaoge
Ki Ghar Kab Aaoge
Likho Kab Aaoge
Ki Tum Bin Ye Ghar Soona Soona Hai

Yeh Poochho Aankhon Ke
Jhalakte Pani Se
Bichhadte Hai Koi
Kahan Aasani Se
Mai Peechhe Chhod Aaya
Duaen Karti Maa
Ki Us Se Bhi Pyari
Mujhe Yeh Dharti Maa
Kisi Ne Dheere Se
Kaha Tha Laut Aana
Main Raasta Dekhungi
Mujhe Na Tadpana
Jaagti Raaton Ne
Ankahi Baaton Ne
Adhure Vaadon Ne
Aur Pucha Hai
Uski Yaadon Ne
Ki Ghar Kab Aaoge
Ki Ghar Kab Aaoge
Likho Kab Aaoge
Ki Tum Bin Ye Ghar Soona Soona Hai

Badi Yaad Aati Hai
Kisi Ki Raaton Mein
Kalai Resham Si
Abhi Hai Haathon Mein
Shayari Jaisi Woh
Labon Pe Rehti Hain
Mohabbat Jaisi Woh
Ragon Mein Behti Hai
Jo Gudiyon Se Khele
Wo Gudiya Yaad Aaye
Ki Baaton Baaton Mein
Ussi Ki Baat Aaye
Mere Dildaaron Ne
Gali Bazaaron Ne
Ki Chitthi Taaron Ne
Aur Pucha Hai
Mere Yaaron Ne
Ki Ghar Kab Aaoge
Ki Ghar Kab Aaoge
Likho Kab Aaoge
Ki Tum Bin Ye Dil Soona Soona Hai

Ae Guzarne Wali Hawa Bata
Mera Itna Kaam Karegi Kya
Mujhe Chhod Ke Jo Chala Gaya

Usey Dhundh Laa
Koyi Rehguzar Ya Koyi Gali
Mujhe Aaj Tak To Nahin Mili
Jo Mita Sake Ye Faasla
Jo Mita Sake Ye Faasla
Meri Saari Jawani Le Gaya
Aur Aankh Mein Pani De Gaya
Jise Dohraunga Umr Bhar
Wo Aisi Kahaani De Gaya
Ae Guzarne Wali Hawa Tujhe
Hai Kasam Na Aise Rula Mujhe
Main Kahan Se Laun Wo Dil Bata
Jise Ho Qubool Ye Alvida
Main Wapas Aaunga
Main Wapas Aaunga
Phir Apne Gaon Mein
Pyar Ki Chhaon Mein
Tarasti Aankhon Se
Kisi Ki Baahon Se
Ke Ghar Ke Raahon Se
Kiya Jo Waada Tha
Wo Nibhaunga
Main Wapas Aaunga
Main Wapas Aaunga
Main Wapas Aaunga
Main Wapas Aaunga

The Literal English Translation of the Lyrics of Ghar Kab Aaoge

Messages come

And torment us

The letters that come

Keep asking

That when will you come home

That when will you come home

Write when will you come

That this house is desolate without you

This that for many years

Was empty

With someone’s arrival

Looks decorated as during Diwali

The doors have awakened

To someone’s footsteps

The morning comes

When someone rolls over in the bed

I keep thinking

In this loneliness

That the moon will descend

In my courtyard

The blessed one

Her earrings

The rituals of the festival of Chauth

Also asks

The redness of henna

That when will you come home

That when will you come home

Write when will you come

That this house is desolate without you

Ask this of the eyes

Glistening with tears

Does anyone part

Anywhere with ease

I left behind

A mother blessing me

Because I loved more

This mother earth

Someone softly

Had said come back

I will be waiting

Do not torment me

Sleepless nights

Unsaid conversations

Unfulfilled promises

Also ask

Her memories

That when will you come home

That when will you come home

Write when will you come

That this house is desolate without you

I intensely remember

Someone at night

Her silken wrist

Is still in my hand

Like a verse of poetry

She remains on my lips

Like love

She flows in my veins

Who played with dolls

That doll I remember

In casual conversations

Her references come

My well wishers

Lanes and markets

Letters and telegrams

Also ask

My buddies

That when will you come home

That when will you come home

Write when will you come

That this house is desolate without you

O passing breeze tell me

Will you do this small work for me

Who has left me and gone

Find that person

Some path or some lane

I could not find till today

That could eliminate this distance

That could eliminate this distance

He took away my entire youth

And left me with tears in my eyes

That I will repeat for the rest of my life

He has given me that story

O passing breeze please

Do not make me cry like this

From where will I get such a heart say

That accepts this final goodbye

I will return

I will return

Again to my village

Under the shade of love

To the longing eyes

To someone’s arms

To the roads that lead to home

The promises I had made

I will fulfil

I will return

I will return

I will return

I will return
