Jaane Woh Kaise Lyrics from Pyaasa Translated and Explained

Jaane Woh Kaise Log The Jinke: Poetic Translation and Lyrics

Meta Description:  Jaane Woh Kaise Log The Jinke is a Bollywood classic song from Guru Dutt’s Pyaasa.  Enjoy the poetic translation of this Hemant Kumar Sahir Ludhianvi combine.

Setting the Background for Jaane Woh Kaise Log The Jinke

The protagonist Vijay (Guru Dutt) is an idealistic poet whose work is repeatedly rejected by publishers, leaving him without income or recognition. He eventually accepts employment from a wealthy publisher, Ghosh (Rehman), who asks him to serve drinks at a party he is hosting at his home. There, Vijay is stunned to discover that his former college love, Meena (Mala Sinha), has married Ghosh, choosing financial stability over a life of struggle with him.

Wounded by this revelation, Vijay spontaneously pours his anguish into the haunting song Jaane Woh Kaise Log The Jinke. As he sings before the assembled guests, Meena retreats into solitude, silently weeping. The song becomes Vijay’s raw expression of heartbreak and betrayal, a lament for how genuine love like his is cast aside while others seem to thrive in the illusion of comfort. Despite his pain, Vijay vows to suffer quietly rather than disrupt Meena’s marriage. Yet this moment marks a turning point, plunging him into a deeper disillusionment with the world and its values.

The English Translation of the Lyrics of Jaane Woh Kaise Log The Jinke

Who were those people whose pure love was requited whenever sought?

Yet when I yearned for fresh rosebuds, sharp thorns were all I got.

Who were those people whose pure love was requited whenever sought?

I searched for the heights of joy but received grief untold

I searched for the heights of joy but received grief untold

I desired warm songs of love but got a rebuff cold

Friends who tried to console only deepened my ache a lot;

Yet when I yearned for fresh rosebuds, sharp thorns were all I got.

Who were those people whose pure love was requited whenever sought?

Every friend has, every friend has

Every friend has parted after moments of amity

Who has the time to engage with a romantic like me

Even my faithful shadow wanders weary and distraught

Yet when I yearned for fresh rosebuds, sharp thorns were all I got.

Who were those people whose pure love was requited whenever sought?

If this is what they call life then this way I will live

If this is what they call life then this way I will live

Without complaining, silently with tears that are captive

So why should I now fear heartbreak, pain is my mascot.

Yet when I yearned for fresh rosebuds, sharp thorns were all I got.

Who were those people whose pure love was requited whenever sought?

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Jaane Woh Kaise Log The Jinke  from Pyaasa

Jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyar ko pyar mila
Humne toh jab kaliyan maangi kaanto ka haar mila
Jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyar ko pyar mila

Khushiyon ki manzil dhoondhi toh gham ki gard mili
Khushiyon ki manzil dhoondhi toh gham ki gard mili
Chahat ke nagme chahe toh aahein sard mili
Dil ke bhoj ko duna kar gaya joh ghamsaar mila
Humne toh jab kaliyan maangi kaanto ka haar mila
Jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyar ko pyar mila

Bichad gaya, bichad gaya
Bichad gaya har saathi dekar pal do pal ka saath
Kisko fursat hai joh thaame deewano ka haath
Humko apna saaya tak aksar bezaar mila
Humne toh jab kaliyan maangi kaanto ka haar mila
Jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyar ko pyar mila

Isko hi jeena kehte hai toh yoon hi jee lenge
Isko hi jeena kehte hai toh yoon hi jee lenge
Uff na karenge lab si lenge aansun pee lenge
Gham se ab ghabrana kaisa gham sau baar mila
Humne toh jab kaliyan maangi kaanto ka haar mila
Jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyar ko pyar mila

The Literal English Translation of the Lyrics of Jaane Woh Kaaise Log The Jinke

Don’t know what kind of people were they whose love was responded with love
But when I asked for flower buds, I received a garland of thorns

I searched for happiness as my destination, but received the dust of grief

I desired songs of desire but received a cold rebuff
Every sympathiser I met doubled the burden of my heart

Every companion parted way after a few seconds of company
Who has the time to hold the hands of a romantic
I often find that even my shadow has become weary

If you call this a life then I will live it this way
Will not complain, remain silent, swallow my tears
Now why should I fear grief, I have received it a hundred times

Translation of Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhagi Si Bollywood Rain Song

Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhagi Si – Golden Oldie Hit by Kishore Kumar

Meta Description:  Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhagi Si is from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi. The popular Bollywood rain song is a Kishore Kumar classic. Sing the translation to the original track.

Setting the Background for Translating Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhagi Si

Do not expect any provocative rain-drenched dancing in Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si. Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi was released in 1958, a time when sensuality in Hindi cinema had to be subtle and understated.

In this memorable sequence, Renu (Madhubala) arrives at Mannu’s garage on a stormy night, her car broken down and her clothes soaked through. Mannu (Kishore Kumar) begins working on the car while singing this playful number, narrating the unusual circumstances—a lone woman, drenched and vulnerable, encountering a strange man in the dead of night.

Interestingly, the camera stays fixed mostly on Kishore Kumar throughout the song, which is a notable deviation from the typical Bollywood rain song. This showcases Kishore Kumar’s effortless comedic timing and charm. The result is one of the most endearing and unique sequences in Hindi cinema. Madhubala appears mostly in the interludes, but even these fleeting moments are enough for her to radiate a restrained yet unmistakable sensuality, further enhancing the scene's charm.

Majrooh Sultanpuri’s lyrics are pure magic. The playful repetitions and internal rhymes create a rhythmic cadence that mirrors the flirtatious, teasing tone of the song. I believe I have captured that spirit in my English translation, but I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhagi Si

In the rain soaking-wet was she

While everyone slept, she roamed free

She chanced upon a stranger

All alone, no one with her

You tell me if this is all right

Hmm….

In the rain soaking-wet was she

While everyone slept, she roamed free

She chanced upon a stranger

All alone, no one with her

You tell me if this is all right

Hmm….

She carries angst within her heart

A trace of bother she does impart

She carries angst within her heart

A trace of bother she does impart

With some irritation and tipsy sensation

In the lonely monsoon night

She chanced upon a stranger

All alone, no one with her

You tell me if this is all right

Hmm….

In the rain soaking-wet was she

While everyone slept, she roamed free

She chanced upon a stranger

All alone, no one with her

You tell me if this is all right

Hmm….

A bit unbalanced quite unsteady

Lost her way and somewhat heady

A bit unbalanced quite unsteady

Lost her way and somewhat heady

Sad and bereft, her home she left

Crazily in the black night

She chanced upon a stranger

All alone, no one with her

You tell me if this is all right

Hmm….

In the rain soaking-wet was she

While everyone slept, she roamed free

She chanced upon a stranger

All alone, no one with her

You tell me if this is all right

Hmm….

Her body drenched her hair wet too

She’s got loose screws I’m telling you

Her body drenched her hair wet too

She’s got loose screws I’m telling you

Proud yet humble, with a stumble

She ventured in the dark night

She chanced upon a stranger

All alone, no one with her

You tell me if this is all right

Hmm….

In the rain soaking-wet was she

While everyone slept, she roamed free

She chanced upon a stranger

All alone, no one with her

You tell me if this is all right

Hmm….

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhagi Si from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi

Ek ladki bheegi bhagi si, soti raton mein jagi si
Milee ek ajnabee se, koyi aage naa peechhe
Tum hi kaho yeh koyi baat hai hmm……..

Ek ladki bheegi bhagi si, soti raton mein jagi si
Milee ek ajnabee se, koyi aage naa peechhe
Tum hi kaho yeh koyi baat hai hmm……..

Dil hi dil mein jali jaati hai
Bigadi bigadi chali aati hai
Dil hi dil mein jali jaati hai
Bigadi bigadi chali aati hai
Jhunjhalati hui balkhati hui, sawan ki sunee raat mein
Milee ek ajnabee se, koyi aage naa peechhe
Tum hi kaho yeh koyi baat hai
Hmm….

Ek ladki bheegi bhagi si, soti raton mein jagi si
Milee ek ajnabee se, koyi aage naa peechhe
Tum hi kaho yeh koyi baat hai hmm……..

Dagmag dagmag lehaki lehaki, bhuli bhatki behaki behaki
Dagmag dagmag lehaki lehaki, bhuli bhatki behaki behaki
Machali machali ghar se nikali, pagali si kaali raat mein
Milee ek ajnabee se, koyi aage naa peechhe
Tum hi kaho yeh koyi baat hai
Hmm…

Ek ladki bheegi bhagi si, soti raton mein jagi si
Milee ek ajnabee se, koyi aage naa peechhe
Tum hi kaho yeh koyi baat hai hmm……..

Tan bheega hai sar geela hai, usaka koyi pech bhi dheela hai
Tan bheega hai sar geela hai, usaka koyi pech bhi dheela hai

Tanti jhukati chalti rukti, nikali andheri raat mein
Milee ek ajnabee se, koyi aage naa peechhe
Tum hi kaho yeh koyi baat hai
Hmm….

Ek ladki bheegi bhagi si, soti raton mein jagi si
Milee ek ajnabee se, koyi aage naa peechhe
Tum hi kaho yeh koyi baat hai
