Aashiqon Ki Colony Translation and Explanation of Lyrics

Aashiqon Ki Colony – Translation of Item Song from O’ Romeo

Meta Description: Aashiqon Ki Colony is a dance song by Shahid Kapoor and Disha Patani from 2025 movie O’ Romeo. Enjoy the translation and explanation of Gulzar lyrics.

Setting the Background for Translating Aashiqon Ki Colony

The audience grows restless, but Julie (Disha Patani) refuses to dance until her Ustara (Shahid Kapoor) makes his entrance. When he finally arrives, they together set the house ablaze with their chemistry and energy. The lyrics reveal a woman fully awakened to desire, ready to leave a trail of broken hearts, while her lover promises to be the one to capture her heart.

Though the song takes the form of an item number, it bears the unmistakable imprint of Gulzar. His writing lends it both linguistic finesse and mysticism of thought. For that reason, this translation does not cling rigidly to literal meaning but tries to convey the emotional texture and subtle nuances he intended. A more literal rendering, that is accompanied by brief explanations, is also included, allowing readers to trace the lines back to the original with clarity.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Aashiqon Ki Colony

Male

Say what may I offer

My heart or life maybe

Your home is all set up

In the lover’s alley

Female

The perfume of love was expensive

It cost a lot

Poison to drown the evening sorrow

That I brought

Alas the perfume of love was expensive

It cost a lot

Poison to drown the evening sorrow

That I brought

I collected all needed to live

And to die

For me in the lover’s colony

I booked a plot

For me in the lover’s colony

I booked a plot

The perfume of love was expensive

It cost a lot

Poison to drown the evening sorrow

That I brought

I collected all needed to live

And to die

For me in the lover’s colony

I booked a plot

For me in the lover’s colony

I booked a plot

The pangs that lovers face

Are completely unique

The night’s uneasy

Under the moonlight

The street corners are

Shrouded in the mist

Where jilted lovers

Exchange tales of their plight

I needed an excuse

To entertain my heart

The address of his home

From his friend I got

The address of his home

From his friend I got

For me in the lover’s colony

I booked a plot

Male

Ho Joy blossoms in my heart

When I sense your fragrance

Like the desert sand blooms

At Julie’s appearance

You came into my sight

The day passed with delight

The eyes that were fasting

Received some respite

You came into my sight

The day passed with delight

The eyes that were fasting

Received some respite

Female

Seeing the flowing tresses

Blowing in the breeze

The poets decided on

The street they will squat

A wave of happiness

Spread all around

But the effects of sorrow

Escape they could not

The candle flame kept burning

Like the wax I melted

The skill to tease lovers

Quickly I was taught

The skill to tease lovers

Quickly I was taught

For me in the lover’s colony

I booked a plot

Male

You are the mistress

Of your house from now

What was mine by right

That only I sought

Love is an ocean that

The smitten lovers have

Bravely swum across

Or drowned in, distraught

Bravely swum across

Or drowned in, distraught

For me in the lover’s colony

I booked a plot

Or drowned in, distraught

Bravely swum across

Or drowned in, distraught

For me in the lover’s colony

I booked a plot

For me in the lover’s colony

I booked a plot

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Aashiqon Ki Colony from O’ Romeo

Kahiye Kya Pesh Karein
Dil Aur Jaan Haazir
Aashiqon Ki Basti Mein
Aapka Makaan Haazir

Ishq Ka Itar Mehnga Tha
Par Le Liya
Shaam-E-Gham Ke Liye
Kuch Zehar Le Liya

Haaye Ishq Ka Itar Mehnga Tha
Par Le Liya
Shaam-E-Gham Ke Liye
Kuch Zehar Le Liya
Jeene Marne Ke Samaan
Saare Mile

Aashiqon Ki Colony Mein
Ghar Le Liya
Aashiqon Ki Colony Mein
Ghar Le Liya

Ishq Ka Itar Mehnga Tha
Par Le Liya
Shaam-E-Gham Ke Liye
Kuch Zehar Le Liya

Jeene Marne Ke Samaan Saare Mile
Aashiqon Ki Colony Mein
Ghar Le Liya
Aashiqon Ki Colony Mein
Ghar Le Liya

Aa Haa…

Dard Anokhe Hai Kuch
Aashiqon Ke Yahan
Raat Kat Ti Nahi
Chaandni Ke Tale

Ik Dhuaan Sa Bhara
Rehta Hai Mod Par
Aahein Bharte Hai
Nukkad Pe Kuch Diljaley

Ho Ho..

Dil Ke Behlane Ko
Ik Bahana Hi Tha

Uske Ghar Ka Pata
Puch Kar Le Liya
Uske Ghar Ka Pata
Puch Kar Le Liya
Aashiqon Ki Colony Mein
Ghar Le Liya

Aa Haa

Ho Aap Jo Mehke Yahan
Aise Dil Shaad Hua
Laila Ke Aane Se
Sehra Aabaad Huaa

Tera Deedaar Hua
Saara Din Paar Hua
Aankhon Ka Roza Tha
Waqt Iftaar Hua

Tera Deedaar Hua (Aa-Ha)
Saara Din Paar Hua (Aa-Ha)
Aankhon Ka Roza Tha
Waqt Iftaar Hua (Iftaar Hua)

Udti Zulfon Ke Muffler
Sambhale Hue
Shairon Ne Jo Ghar
Chowk Par Le Liya

Ik Tarannum Ke Bauchar
Udne Lagi
Ik Udaasi Ka
Sabne Asar Le Liya

O Shamma Jalti Rahi
Hum Pighalte Rahe

Dil Jalane Ka
Humne Hunar Le Liya (Aa-Ha)
Dil Jalane Ka
Humne Hunar Le Liya
Aashiqon Ki Colony Mein
Ghar Le Liya

Aap Maalik-Makaan Ho Gaye Aaj Se
Dil Pe Haq Tha Wahi Maang Kar Le Liya
Ishq Darya-E-Aashiq Hai Deewanon Ne

Doob Kar Le Liya
Tair Kar Le Liya
Doob Kar Le Liya
Tair Kar Le Liya

Aashiqon Ki Colony Mein
Ghar Le Liya

Doob Kar Le Liya
Tair Kar Le Liya
Aashiqon Ki Colony Mein
Ghar Le Liya
Aashiqon Ki Colony Mein
Ghar Le Liya

The Literal English Translation of the Lyrics of Aashiqon Ki Colony

Say what may I offer you

My heart and life are both available

In the colony of lovers

Your house is available

The perfume of love was costly

But I took it

For the sorrows of the evening

I took some poison

Things needed to live and to die

I found them all

In the colony of lovers

I took a house

The pains are unusual

That lovers face

It gets difficult to pass the night

Under the moonlight

There is a mist

Enveloping the turn

You can hear the sighs

On the corner of jealous lovers

To entertain my heart

It was an excuse

The address of his home

I asked and took

When you entered here

Your fragrance enraptured me

With the arrival of Laila

The desert flourished

I saw you

The whole day passed

The eyes were fasting (had not seen any beauty)

The fast was broken when I saw you

(Seeing) Me gather

Tresses flowing like a muffler

Poets took a home

Near the square (from where they could regularly see me)

A musical spray

Began to fly (all around)

A sadness

Began to affect everyone

(love invokes feelings of both joy and sadness)

The flame kept burning

I melted like wax

How to make lovers jealous

I mastered the skill

From today you are the owner of the home

What was your by right you asked and took

ALove is an ocean for those who are smitten

You drown in it

Or swim across

Translation of Gulzar Song from O Romeo with Complete Lyrics

Paan Ki Dukaan – Translation of Dance Hit Song from O’ Romeo

Meta Description: Paan Ki Dukaan is a dance song by Shahid Kapoor and Disha Patani from Vishal Bhardwaj movie. Enjoy the full lyrics and translation set to the original score.

Setting the Background for Translating Paan Ki Dukaan

Ustara (Shahid Kapoor) and his boys plan to leave India for good. They go to Julie’s (Disha Patani) for one last celebration. The lyrics of Paan Ki Dukaan reflect this situation. Ustara himself is the pigeon that is being released. Kohl is applied to ward off mishaps in his proposed new life and Julie threatens him not to get involved with another woman abroad.

I was attracted to Paan Ki Dukaan because of its vibrant, earthy energy, which it shares with many songs written by Gulzar for films by Vishal Bhardwaj. Beedi Jalaile and “Ibn-E-Batuta” immediately come to mind. The primary difference is one of setting. Rather than the rustic, rural milieu of those songs, this one is rooted in an urban, street-based environment.

Such songs often contain words and phrases that either have no stand-alone meaning or whose literal meanings do not neatly align with the context. Gulzar is a master of weaving together colloquial idiom and layered metaphor, blending seeming incongruities into a vivid, rhythmically charged lyrical landscape.

In translating Paan Ki Dukaan, I have sought to preserve this vibrancy. Where certain expressions seemed opaque or culturally embedded, I have adapted them to retain their emotional and rhythmic effect rather than adhering strictly to literal meaning. The result is therefore not a purely literal translation in many places, but rather a transcreation that attempts to evoke the spirit and texture of the original. For completeness a literal translation of these words and phrases has been provided in the blog.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Paan Ki Dukaan

Aa Hmm Hmm, Aa Hmm Hmm
Aa Hmm Hmm, Hurrr!

Romeo in playful mood
From local neighbourhood
Yesterday a pigeon released
Aa Hmm Hmm Hurrr
From the terrace it flew
Over the rooftops too
And Juliet’s attention it seized

Aa Hmm Hmm, Aa Hmm Hmm
Aa Hmm Hmm, Hurrr!

Romeo in playful mood
From local neighbourhood
Yesterday a pigeon released
From the terrace it flew
Over the rooftops too
And Juliet’s attention it seized

A pure silver ring
The lover did bring
Her heart he wanted in swap
Downstairs is the betel shop
Julie’s house is on the top
Come carefully don’t get caught
La-da La-da Hey-ya Re
Downstairs is the betel shop
Julie’s house is on the top
Come carefully don’t get caught
La-da La-da Hey-ya

Downstairs is the betel shop
Julie’s house is on the top
Come carefully don’t get caught
La-da La-da Hey-ya Re
Downstairs is the betel shop
Julie’s house is on the top
Come carefully don’t get caught
La-da La-da Hey-ya
Hey-ya Hey-ya Hey-ya

Oh I decorated the balcony just for you
Uncorked a bottle of whisky just for you
Just for you my love yeah
Oh I decorated the balcony just for you
Uncorked a bottle of whisky just for you
They drained it to the final drop
My Julie stood there in shock
Come carefully don’t get caught
La-da La-da Hey-ya Re

Downstairs is the betel shop
Julie’s house is on the top
Come carefully don’t get caught
La-da La-da Hey-ya
Downstairs is the betel shop
Julie’s house is on the top
Come carefully don’t get caught
La-da La-da Hey-ya Re

Downstairs is the betel shop
Julie’s house is on the top
Come carefully don’t get caught
La-da La-da Hey-ya

Ho, I’ll put a kohl dot on you
To ward off evil
Your wife shouldn’t know of us
And never she will
Ho, I’ll put a kohl dot on you
To ward off evil
Your wife shouldn’t know of us
And never she will
When you sail across the sea don’t forget me
If a fairer face you see don’t forget me
Forget me, forget me

This precious nose-ring behold, it’s only for you
It’s only for you, it’s only for you
And it has a foil of gold, it’s only for you
This precious nose-ring behold, it’s only for you
And it has a foil of gold, it’s only for you

My gang’s wild and free floating
Like a kite that’s lost its string
An unruly rowdy crop
Raising Cain on the rooftop
Come carefully don’t get caught
La-da La-da Hey-ya
Come quietly don’t get caught
La-da La-da Hey-ya Re
La-da La-da Hey-ya

Downstairs is the betel shop
Julie’s house is on the top
Come carefully don’t get caught
La-da La-da Hey-ya
Downstairs is the betel shop
Julie’s house is on the top
Come carefully don’t get caught
La-da La-da Hey-ya Re

Downstairs is the betel shop
Julie’s house is on the top
Come carefully don’t get caught
La-da La-da Hey-ya
Downstairs is the betel shop
Julie’s house is on the top
Come carefully don’t get caught
La-da La-da Hey-ya Re

Mohe Bhool Gaye Sanwariya Translation as Kajari Viraha Song

Mohe Bhool Gaye Sanwariya – Baiju Bawra Hit Song Translated

Meta Description:  Baiju Bawra is a mega hit Hindi film with music by Naushad and lyrics by Shakeel Badayuni. Enjoy the translation of the viraha Kajari Mohe Bhool Gaye Sawanriya.

Setting the Background for Translating Mohe Bhool Gaye Sawariya

Baiju (Bharat Bhushan) and Gauri (Meena Kumari) are deeply in love from an early age, but destiny has other plans. Baiju’s father, a talented singer himself, was publicly humiliated by Tansen and soon died unable to bear the stigma. Baiju is traumatised by the event and is consumed by one burning obsession of avenging his father’s death. He realises that love has become a distraction in the intense discipline needed to acquire the skill for defeating Tansen in a musical contest. So, he emotionally and physically distances himself from Gauri.

Gauri understands the reason for Baiju’s withdrawal and knows that his absence is not born of infidelity. However, she is heartbroken. If ultimately Baiju had to opt for revenge, he should not have raised her hopes of having a shared life with him. She feels aggrieved and delusional about love. Mohe Bhool Gaye Sanwariya expresses this emotional turmoil. The song is picturised almost entirely on Gauri. Baiju makes appearances during the interludes, as a memory of happier times, only to accentuate the desolation.

Mohe Bhool Gaye Sanwariya as a Viraha Geet and Kajari

A viraha geet is a song of separation, and Mohe Bhool Gaye Sanwariya fits this category with remarkable precision. Kajari is a specific sub-genre of the viraha geet, and it is necessary to examine the issue more closely. Two aspects are particularly relevant: the lyrical content and the musical composition.

Traditionally, a kajari is sung by a woman separated from her beloved, giving voice to the pain, longing, and desolation of solitude. It is closely associated with the monsoon season, a time when romantic yearning is believed to reach its peak. As a result, kajari lyrics often evoke clouds, rain, kohl-darkened eyes, and other monsoon imagery. The absent beloved is frequently addressed through epithets associated with Krishna. Linguistically, kajari is rooted in rustic expression, drawing from Braj, Awadhi, or Bhojpuri, and is marked by directness and emotional simplicity.

Mohe Bhool Gaye Sanwariya aligns closely with these conventions. At its core is the lament of a woman who feels abandoned by her beloved. Although the lyrics do not explicitly invoke sawan, the imagery of unceasing tears subtly echoes monsoon rain. Cinematically, the scene is set in the monsoon season, with a part of it being rendered on the traditional sawan ka Jhoola, which is included in many kajaris. So, what may be lacking in words has been more than made up in images. The address “sanwariya” situates the absent lover within a Krishna-inflected emotional universe, while phrases drawn from regional speech, such as aavan kah gaye ajahu na aaye, further reinforce the song’s affinity with kajari idiom.

The point of departure lies in the musical treatment. Kajari is fundamentally a rural, folk form, whereas Mohe Bhool Gaye Sanwariya is shaped by a classical music framework, drawing largely on raga Bhairav. Its composed structure and orchestral accompaniment move it away from the spare, unadorned character of folk performance. One may therefore conclude that while the song may not be a kajari in strict formal terms, it is unmistakably a kajari in spirit.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Mohe Bhool Gaye Sanwariya

If I had only known

That love would bring such pain

I’d have proclaimed all over town

Now from loving all should refrain

Darling you have forgotten me, you have forgotten me

Darling you have forgotten me, you have forgotten me

You said you would come, yet you are not here

You said you would come, yet you are not here

No message from you no inquiry

Darling you have forgotten me, you have forgotten me

The pain of absence you’ve etched on my heart

A palace built and then smashed apart

The pain of absence you’ve etched on my heart

A palace built and then smashed apart

Raised my hopes you heartless fiend

Raised my hopes you heartless fiend

Then averted your gaze completely

Darling you have forgotten me, you have forgotten me

Sweetheart, down my cheeks my tears stream

With them they wash away my dream

Sweetheart, down my cheeks my tears stream

With them they wash away my dream

Love is a lie, the lover false

Love is a lie, the lover false

Deceitful is the whole city

Darling you have forgotten me, you have forgotten me

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Mohe Bhool Gaye Sanwariya from Baiju Bawara

Jo mai aisaa jaanati

Ke preet kiye dukh hoi

Toh nagar dhidhoraa pitati

Ke preet na kariyo koi

Mohe bhool gaye sanwariya, bhool gaye sanwariya

Mohe bhool gaye sanwariya, bhool gaye sanwariya

Aavan kah gaye, ajahu na aaye

Aavan kah gaye, ajahu na aaye

Leeni na mori khabariyaa

Mohe bhool gaye sanwariya, bhool gaye sanwariya

Dil ko diye kyon dukh birahaa ke

Tod diyaa kyon mahal banaa ke

Dil ko diye kyon dukh birahaa ke

Tod diyaa kyon mahal banaa ke

Aas dilaa ke o bedardi

Aas dilaa ke o bedardi

Pher li kaahe najariyaa

Mohe bhool gaye sanwariya, bhool gaye sanwariya

Nain kahe ro ro ke sajanaa

Dekh chuke ham pyaar kaa sapanaa

Nain kahe ro ro ke sajanaa

Dekh chuke ham pyaar kaa sapanaa

Preet hai jhuti, preetam jhutaa

Preet hai jhuti, preetam jhutaa

Jhuti hai saari nagariyaa

Mohe bhool gaye sanwariya, bhool gaye sanwariya
