Translation of Lag Jaa Gale Lata Hit Song from Who Kaun Thi

Lag Jaa Gale – Poetic Translation of Lata - Madan Mohan Song

Meta Description:  Lag Jaa Gale is a haunting Bollywood song from the suspense movie Who Kaun Thi.  The lyrics are by Raja Mehdi Ali Khan and the composition by Madan Mohan.

Setting the Background for Translating Lag Jaa Gale

Dr. Anand (Manoj Kumar) stands to inherit a vast fortune, provided he can prove that he is mentally sound. Otherwise, the inheritance would pass to the next claimant, Ramesh (Prem Chopra). The essence of the plot lies in Ramesh’s calculated attempts to drive Dr. Anand into insanity. To execute his scheme, Ramesh enlists the help of Sandhya (Sadhana). She sets out to ensnare Dr. Anand in a romance carefully veiled in mystery and illusion.

The haunting song Lag Jaa Gale appears in this context. On screen, Sandhya sings it while pretending to be the double of the woman to whom Dr. Anand is actually engaged. The resulting confusion begins to erode Anand’s mental equilibrium, deepening the sense of uncertainty and suspense.

In the end, however, the story resolves on a reassuring note. The mystery is untangled with the revelation that Sandhya has a twin sister, bringing clarity, justice, and a happy resolution to the narrative of Woh Kaun Thi.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Lag Jaa Gale

Come embrace me because this
Night may not come again
Perhaps in all our lives this
Delight may not come again

Come embrace me because this
Night may not come again
Perhaps in all our lives this

Delight may not come again
Come embrace me

Today these tender moments

Are gifts bestowed by fate
Today these tender moments
Are gifts bestowed by fate
Come close and with your eager heart
My beauty contemplate
For fate is so uncertain that
This sight may not come again
Perhaps in all our lives this
Delight may not come again
Come embrace me

Please come to me just once tonight
For I may not be about
Please come to me just once tonight
For I may not be about
Let me hold you in my arms
And cry my heart out
Believe me, such a poignant
Plight may not come again
Perhaps in all our lives this
Delight may not come again
Come embrace me

Come embrace me because this
Night may not come again
Perhaps in all our lives this
Delight may not come again
Come embrace me

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Lag Jaa Gale from Who Kaun Thi

lag jaa gale ke phir ye

haseen raat ho na ho

shaayad phir is janam mein

mulaakaat ho na ho

lag jaa gale ke phir ye

haseen raat ho na ho

shaayad phir is janam mein

mulaakaat ho na ho

lag jaa gale

hum ko mili hai aaj ye

ghadiya naseeb se

hum ko mili hai aaj ye

ghadiya naseeb se

jee bhar ke dekh leejiye

hamako kareeb se

phir aapke naseeb mein

ye baat ho na ho

shaayad phir is janam mein

mulaakaat ho na ho

lag jaa gale

paas aaiye ke ham nahin

aayenge baar baar

paas aaiye ke ham nahin

aayenge baar baar

baahen gale mein daal ke

ham ro le zaar-zaar

aankhon se phir ye pyaar ki

barsaat ho na ho

shaayad phir is janam mein

mulaakaat ho na ho

lag ja gale...

lag jaa gale ke phir ye

haseen raat ho na ho

shaayad phir is janam mein

mulaakaat ho na ho

lag jaa gale

The Literal English Translation of the Lyrics of Lag Jaa Gale

Embrace me because this beautiful night may not come again

Perhaps in this life we may not meet again

Today we have been given these moments by destiny

See me close up to your heart’s content

Fate may not give you this opportunity again

You come close because I will not approach you repeatedly

I can put my arms around your neck and weep bitterly

These tears of love may not rain from my eyes again

Jaane Woh Kaise Lyrics from Pyaasa Translated and Explained

Jaane Woh Kaise Log The Jinke: Poetic Translation and Lyrics

Meta Description:  Jaane Woh Kaise Log The Jinke is a Bollywood classic song from Guru Dutt’s Pyaasa.  Enjoy the poetic translation of this Hemant Kumar Sahir Ludhianvi combine.

Setting the Background for Jaane Woh Kaise Log The Jinke

The protagonist Vijay (Guru Dutt) is an idealistic poet whose work is repeatedly rejected by publishers, leaving him without income or recognition. He eventually accepts employment from a wealthy publisher, Ghosh (Rehman), who asks him to serve drinks at a party he is hosting at his home. There, Vijay is stunned to discover that his former college love, Meena (Mala Sinha), has married Ghosh, choosing financial stability over a life of struggle with him.

Wounded by this revelation, Vijay spontaneously pours his anguish into the haunting song Jaane Woh Kaise Log The Jinke. As he sings before the assembled guests, Meena retreats into solitude, silently weeping. The song becomes Vijay’s raw expression of heartbreak and betrayal, a lament for how genuine love like his is cast aside while others seem to thrive in the illusion of comfort. Despite his pain, Vijay vows to suffer quietly rather than disrupt Meena’s marriage. Yet this moment marks a turning point, plunging him into a deeper disillusionment with the world and its values.

The English Translation of the Lyrics of Jaane Woh Kaise Log The Jinke

Who were those people whose pure love was requited whenever sought?

Yet when I yearned for fresh rosebuds, sharp thorns were all I got.

Who were those people whose pure love was requited whenever sought?

I searched for the heights of joy but received grief untold

I searched for the heights of joy but received grief untold

I desired warm songs of love but got a rebuff cold

Friends who tried to console only deepened my ache a lot;

Yet when I yearned for fresh rosebuds, sharp thorns were all I got.

Who were those people whose pure love was requited whenever sought?

Every friend has, every friend has

Every friend has parted after moments of amity

Who has the time to engage with a romantic like me

Even my faithful shadow wanders weary and distraught

Yet when I yearned for fresh rosebuds, sharp thorns were all I got.

Who were those people whose pure love was requited whenever sought?

If this is what they call life then this way I will live

If this is what they call life then this way I will live

Without complaining, silently with tears that are captive

So why should I now fear heartbreak, pain is my mascot.

Yet when I yearned for fresh rosebuds, sharp thorns were all I got.

Who were those people whose pure love was requited whenever sought?

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Jaane Woh Kaise Log The Jinke  from Pyaasa

Jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyar ko pyar mila
Humne toh jab kaliyan maangi kaanto ka haar mila
Jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyar ko pyar mila

Khushiyon ki manzil dhoondhi toh gham ki gard mili
Khushiyon ki manzil dhoondhi toh gham ki gard mili
Chahat ke nagme chahe toh aahein sard mili
Dil ke bhoj ko duna kar gaya joh ghamsaar mila
Humne toh jab kaliyan maangi kaanto ka haar mila
Jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyar ko pyar mila

Bichad gaya, bichad gaya
Bichad gaya har saathi dekar pal do pal ka saath
Kisko fursat hai joh thaame deewano ka haath
Humko apna saaya tak aksar bezaar mila
Humne toh jab kaliyan maangi kaanto ka haar mila
Jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyar ko pyar mila

Isko hi jeena kehte hai toh yoon hi jee lenge
Isko hi jeena kehte hai toh yoon hi jee lenge
Uff na karenge lab si lenge aansun pee lenge
Gham se ab ghabrana kaisa gham sau baar mila
Humne toh jab kaliyan maangi kaanto ka haar mila
Jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyar ko pyar mila

Meanings of difficult Urdu words

Gard = Dust

Ghamsaar = Sympathiser

Fursat = Leisure

Deewana = Romantic

The Literal English Translation of the Lyrics of Jaane Woh Kaaise Log The Jinke

Don’t know what kind of people were they whose love was responded with love
But when I asked for flower buds, I received a garland of thorns

I searched for happiness as my destination, but received the dust of grief

I desired songs of desire but received a cold rebuff
Every sympathiser I met doubled the burden of my heart

Every companion parted way after a few seconds of company
Who has the time to hold the hands of a romantic
I often find that even my shadow has become weary

If you call this a life then I will live it this way
Will not complain, remain silent, swallow my tears
Now why should I fear grief, I have received it a hundred times
