Ae Watan has been rendered as a male version by Arijit Singh and as a female version by Sunidhi Chauhan. The male version of the song has lyrics by Gulzar. The female version has a verse written by Muhammad Iqbal added to the Gulzar lyrics. This version ostensibly reflects Pakistani patriotism, but actually is sung for India by Sehmat, an Indian spy in Pakistan.
