Pardesiyon Se Na Ankhiyan Milana Lata Version Translated

Pardesiyon Se: Translation and Explanation of Lata Version

Meta Description:  Pardesiyon Se Na Ankhiyan Milana is sung three times with different lyrics in Jab Jab Phool Khile. This is the translation of the female version sung by Lata.

Setting the Background for Translating Pardesiyon Se Na Ankhiyan Milana (Lata)

This is the second chronological version of Pardesiyon Se Na Ankhiyan Milana from Jab Jab Phool Khile. You can find the translation and discussion of the first versionhere.

Rita (Nanda), a wealthy heiress from the city, visits Kashmir on holiday and falls in love with Raja, a humble boatman, before she returns home. Yet the memory of Raja continues to draw her back, and the following year she returns to Kashmir. Dressed in traditional Kashmiri attire and rowing a shikara herself, she sings this version of the song.

The lyrics retain the song's warning against falling in love with a foreign stranger, but the perspective has changed – the foreigner is now Raja. In the opening verse, Rita reflects on how she entrusted her heart to a foreigner and is now suffering the consequences. The next verse reveals how the stranger has persuaded her to leave her father's home and journey to him. What was once a playful caution has become a confession of love and longing, as Rita acknowledges that she has willingly surrendered herself to the very fate the song warns against.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Pardesiyon Se Na Ankhiyan Milana (Lata)

Never lock glances with strangers I say

Never lock glances with strangers I say

For strangers are destined to leave one day

Never lock glances with strangers I say

Never lock glances with strangers I say

Once I placed my trust in a stranger

Once I placed my trust in a stranger

Gave him my heart unaware of the danger

Gave him my heart unaware of the danger

Like a moth in a flame, it was burnt away

Never lock glances with strangers I say

Never lock glances with strangers I say

The strangers force you to leave home and

The strangers force you to leave home and

Come all alone to a foreign land

Come all alone to a foreign land

They leave you with no choice but to obey

Never lock glances with strangers I say

Never lock glances with strangers I say

The Literal English Translation of the Lyrics of Pardesiyon Se Na Ankhiyan Milana (Lata)

Never lock glances with strangers I say

For strangers are destined to leave one day

I had once succumbed to this trust

Had fallen in love with a foreigner

My heart got burnt like a moth in a flame

They compel us to leave our father’s land

They call us to a foreign land

Alas they do not listen to any excuse
