Translation of Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein Lyrics from Brahmachari

Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein: Poetic Translation of Brahmachari Song

Meta Description: Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein is a popular Bollywood song from the Shammi Kapoor starrer Brahmchari. Mohammad Rafi won Best Playback Singer Filmfare Award for this song.

Setting the Background for Translating Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein

Brahmachari (Shammi Kapoor) runs an orphanage out of his own home, supporting it by singing at a nightclub. One day, he rescues a young woman, Sheetal (Rajshree), from attempting suicide. Sheetal is heartbroken over Ravi Khanna (Pran), a wealthy man who has spurned her because of her unsophisticated manners. Moved by her plight, Brahmachari promises to help her win Ravi's love by transforming her into a refined, high-society woman.

As Brahmachari guides her through this transformation, he unexpectedly falls in love with her. However, the newly poised Sheetal is accepted by Ravi, who takes her to the very nightclub where Brahmachari performs. During his act, Brahmachari sings the poignant Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein, pouring his heart out in a song that reveals his unspoken love. Sheetal, touched by the raw emotion in Brahmachari's performance, realizes that she, too, has fallen in love with him. This moment of revelation marks a turning point in the story, as emotions and loyalties are tested, leading the narrative in a new direction.

Dil Ke Jharokhe Main as a Piano Song

Piano songs hold a special place in Bollywood cinema, often accompanying emotionally charged moments—and this scene is no exception. Brahmachari pours out his feelings at the piano, his voice echoing with longing and intensity. Meanwhile, on the dance floor, an equally dramatic tableau unfolds during the musical interludes. A line of innocent young women dressed in pure white is flanked on one side by polished, well-mannered suitors and on the other by cunning, dark-clad rakes. This vibrant rock-and-roll showdown becomes a symbolic reflection of the emotional tug-of-war between Sheetal, Brahmachari, and Ravi.

The Rhythm of Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein

During the recording of Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein, Shammi Kapoor humorously challenged Mohammed Rafi to sing the opening verse of the song in one breath. Rafi accepted the challenge and fulfilled it with immaculate perfection. The rhythm that was created by this, and adopted for the remaining verses, raised the intensity of the song to the next level.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein

I’ll enshrine you in the window of my heart

With your memories I promise not to part

You’ll always be close to me

My darling do not worry

I’ll enshrine you in the window of my heart

With your memories I promise not to part

You’ll always be close to me

My darling do not worry

Tomorrow your beauty may charm someone else

But your images will be etched in my dreams

You'll depart in a flower-draped palanquin

Yet your fragrance will stay in my breath streams

Tomorrow your beauty may charm someone else

But your images will be etched in my dreams

You'll depart in a flower-draped palanquin

Yet your fragrance will stay in my breath streams

I’ll enshrine you in the window of my heart

With your memories I promise not to part

You’ll always be close to me

My darling do not worry

Your crimson lips appear as a carafe

Now poised to pour out wine both rich and rare

The mesmerising silken tresses of yours

Still cling to me even though you are not there

Your crimson lips appear as a carafe

Now poised to pour out wine both rich and rare

The mesmerising silken tresses of yours

Still cling to me even though you are not there

I’ll enshrine you in the window of my heart

With your memories I promise not to part

You’ll always be close to me

My darling do not worry

Betray my love if that is what you desire

You will not hear even a word in complaint

Your sacred image is ensconced in my eyes

Forever I will worship you as a saint

Betray my love if that is what you desire

You will not hear even a word in complaint

Your sacred image is ensconced in my eyes

Forever I will worship you as a saint

I’ll enshrine you in the window of my heart

With your memories I promise not to part

You’ll always be close to me

My darling do not worry

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein from Brahmachari

Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein Tujhko Bithakar
Yaadon Ko Teri Mein Dulhan Banakar
Rakhoonga Mein Dil Ke Paas
Mat Ho Meri Jaan Udaas

Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein Tujhko Bithakar
Yaadon Ko Teri Mein Dulhan Banakar
Rakhoonga Mein Dil Ke Paas
Mat Ho Meri Jaan Udaas

Kal Tere Jalwe Paraye Bhi Honge
Lekin Jhalak Mere Khwabon Mein Hogi
Phoolon Ki Doli Mein Hogi Tu Rukhsat
Lekin Mehak Meri Sanson Mein Hogi

Kal Tere Jalwe Paraye Bhi Honge
Lekin Jhalak Mere Khwabon Mein Hogi
Phoolon Ki Doli Mein Hogi Tu Rukhsat
Lekin Mehak Meri Sanson Mein Hogi

Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein Tujhko Bithakar
Yaadon Ko Teri Mein Dulhan Banakar
Rakhoonga Mein Dil Ke Paas
Mat Ho Meri Jaan Udaas

Ab Bhi Tere Surkh Hothon Ke Pyaale
Mere Tassavur Mein Saki Baney Hain
Ab Bhi Teri Zulf Ke Mast Saaye
Birha Ki Dhoop Mein Sathi Baney Hain

Ab Bhi Tere Surkh Hothon Ke Pyaale
Mere Tassavur Mein Saki Baney Hain
Ab Bhi Teri Zulf Ke Mast Saaye
Birha Ki Dhoop Mein Sathi Baney Hain

Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein Tujhko Bithakar
Yaadon Ko Teri Mein Dulhan Banakar
Rakhoonga Mein Dil Ke Paas
Mat Ho Meri Jaan Udaas

Meri Mohabbat Ko Thukra De Chahe
Mein Koi Tujhse Na Shikva Karoonga
Aankhon Mein Rehti Hai Tasveer Teri
Saari Umar Teri Pooja Karoonga

Meri Mohabbat Ko Thukra De Chahe
Mein Koi Tujhse Na Shikva Karoonga
Aankhon Mein Rehti Hai Tasveer Teri
Saari Umar Teri Pooja Karoonga

Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein Tujhko Bithakar
Yaadon Ko Teri Mein Dulhan Banakar
Rakhoonga Mein Dil Ke Paas
Mat Ho Meri Jaan Udaas

Meanings of Some Difficult Urdu Words

Jharokha = Window

Jalwe = Charms

Rukhsat = Depart

Surkh = Red

Tassavur = Imagination

Saki = Person who distributes wine

Birha = Separation

Shikva = Complaint

The Literal English Translation of the Lyrics of Ruaan

Seating you in the window of my heart

Making your memories my bride

I will keep you close to my heart

My darling do not be sad

Tomorrow your charm may be for some other

But your glimpse will be in my dreams

You will depart in a flower draped palanquin

But the fragrance will remain in my breath

Even now the cup formed by your red lips

In my imagination pour out wine

Even now the shades from your intoxicating tresses

Are companions in the heat of separation

Reject my love if you want to

I will not make any complaint

Your image resides in my eyes

I will worship it all my life

Poetic Translation of Katra Katra Milti Hai from Ijaazat

Katra Katra Milti Hai – Poetic Translation of Gulzar Lyrics

Meta Description:  Katra Katra Milti Hai is a song about life by Gulzar. There are other lyrics from Ijaazat at Bollywood Translations. Enjoy the poetic English translations.

Setting the Background for Katra Katra Milti Hai

The song conveys two profound reflections on life:

1.     Life is made up of moments. To truly enjoy life, we must live each moment to the extent we can. Too often, we chase grand goals or focus solely on the bigger picture, overlooking the simple beauty of the present. In doing so, we miss what makes life meaningful and may end up feeling disappointed.

2.     Moments flow endlessly, like a stream. Life is a continuous journey of moments unfolding one after another. Rather than clinging to the past or worrying about what’s ahead, we are invited to flow with time—embracing each moment as it comes and finding joy in the now.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Katra Katra Milti Hai

Every moment that you get

Every moment let it grow

This is called life (this is called life) let it flow (let it flow)

Unquenched am I, let me be so

Let me be please

Every moment that you get

Every moment let it grow

This is called life (this is called life) let it flow (let it flow)

Unquenched am I, let me be so

Let me be please

Yesterday it came again to me

I was asleep you stirred me gently

I awoke within a dream, my foot slipped

Into your arms I tumbled tenderly

In my dreams let me flow

Unquenched am I, let me be so

Let me be

Every moment that you get

Every moment let it grow

This is called life (this is called life) let it flow (let it flow)

Unquenched am I, let me be so

Let me be

You unfurled for me the sky above

Yet earth still holds on to my bare feet

My desire doesn’t end when we are one

O hopefully, life tastes forever sweet

In desire let me flow

Unquenched am I, let me be so

Let me be

Every moment that you get

Every moment let it grow

This is called life (this is called life) let it flow (let it flow)

Unquenched am I, let me be so

Let me be

Aloft the fine scattering of mist

I have perhaps touched the endless skies

See how high my heart has arisen

Supported by the love in your two eyes

In the mist, let me flow

Unquenched am I, let me be so

Let me be

Every moment that you get

Every moment let it grow

This is called life (this is called life) let it flow (let it flow)

Unquenched am I, let me be so

Let me be

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Katra Katra Milti Hai from Ijaazat

Katara katara milati hai

Katara katara jine do

Zindagi hai (zindagi hai), bahane do (bahane do)

Pyaasi hun main, pyaasi rahane do

(Rahane do na.. ..)

Katara katara milati hai

Katara katara jine do

Zindagi hai (zindagi hai), bahane do (bahane do)

Pyaasi hun main, pyaasi rahane do

(Rahane do na.. ..)

Kal bhi to kuchh aisa hi hua tha

Neend mein thi, tumane jab chhua tha

Girate girate baanhon mein bachi main

O Sapane pe paanw pad gaya tha

Sapanon mein bahane do

Pyaasi hun main, pyaasi rahane do

(Rahane do )

Katara katara milati hai

Katara katara jine do

Zindagi hai (zindagi hai), bahane do (bahane do)

Pyaasi hun main, pyaasi rahane do

(Rahane do.. ..)

Tum ne to akaash bichhaaya

Mere nange pairon mein zamin hai

Pa ke bhi tumhaari arazu ho

O Shaayad aisi jindagi hasin hai

Arazu mein bahane do

Pyaasi hun main, pyaasi rahane do

(Rahane do na.. ..)

Katara katara milati hai

Katara katara jine do

Zindagi hai (zindagi hai), bahane do (bahane do)

Pyaasi hun main, pyaasi rahane do

(Rahane do.. ..)

Halke halke kohare ke dhuen mein

Shaayad asamaan tak aa gayi hun

Teri do nigaahon ke sahaare

O Dekho to kahaan tak aa gayi hun

Kohare mein bahane do

Pyaasi hun main, pyaasi rahane do

(Rahane do )

Katara katara milati hai

Katara katara jine do

Zindagi hai (zindagi hai), bahane do (bahane do)

Pyaasi hun main, pyaasi rahane do

(Rahane do.. ..)

Mora Gora Ang Lai Le Gulzar First Bollywood Song Translated

Mora Gora Ang Lai Le – Translation of Bandini Golden Oldie

Meta Description:  Mora Gora Ang Lai Le is Gulzar’s first Bollywood song written for the 1963 Hindi movie Bandini. Enjoy the transcreation of the lyrics set to the original music.

Setting the Background for Translating Mora Gora Ang Lai Le

The Unwilling Lyricist

Mora Gora Ang Lai Le was the very first Bollywood song penned by Gulzar. At the time, he was working as an assistant director to Bimal Roy on the film Bandini. The film's music was composed by the legendary Sachin Dev Burman, with Shailendra as the designated lyricist. During the production, Burman asked Gulzar to write the lyrics for one of the songs. Initially, Gulzar declined the offer—he had no desire to become a lyricist and was focused on pursuing a career in direction. However, given Burman's towering stature in the industry, Gulzar eventually agreed. The rest, as they say, is history. Gulzar went on to gain widespread acclaim as a lyricist long before he established himself as a filmmaker

Mora Gora Ang Lai Le

Girls often long for fair skin—except when they are sneaking away for a secret rendezvous with their lovers. In such moments, fairness becomes a liability, making them more visible in the dark. A duskier complexion would allow them to blend into the night’s shadows more easily. This paradox is beautifully expressed by the heroine in the opening lines of Mora Gora Ang Lai Le.

Though Gulzar has given lyrical shape to this sentiment with remarkable grace, the idea itself is not new. Romantic themes like this are deeply rooted in Indian literary tradition. In the classical Sanskrit epic Geet Govind, Radha’s friends advise her to cloak her fair skin with a dark shawl before she ventures out to meet Krishna under the cover of night.

Another subtle enemy of a woman’s secrecy in love is the anklet—the soft chime of which could betray her steps. In the same verse from Geet Govind, Radha is also urged to remove her anklets so she can walk silently to her beloved. This motif reappears centuries later in the song Thade Rahiyo from Pakeezah, where it is evoked with equal delicacy. A translation of this song can be found on Bollywood Translations.

The Genius of Gulzar

The fear of being caught—and the accompanying shame—is an ever-present shadow for those who steal away at night to meet their lovers. Yet, more often than not, the longing to be with the beloved overpowers that fear. This inner conflict is poignantly captured by Gulzar in Mora Gora Ang Lai Le, revealing, even in his debut as a lyricist, the brilliance that would come to define his work.

In my poetic translation, I had to preserve the original song’s rhyme and metre, which inevitably softened some of Gulzar’s raw expression. I have tried to restore its full emotional impact in the literal translation:

“A shame of getting caught shackles my feet, but a yearning to meet my lover tugs at my arms.”

Gulzar is widely celebrated for his mastery of language, particularly Urdu. Yet, in this song, he opts for rustic, colloquial Hindi—eschewing even its formal register. This choice reflects the social and emotional world of the heroine. The use of “hum kaa” instead of the more refined “hum ko” says it all: it’s a language rooted in the soil, authentic to the character’s voice and setting.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Mora Gora Ang Lai Le

I’ll forsake this fairer face

And take on a dusky haze

Hide in the dark of the night

Seek out my lover’s embrace

I’ll forsake this fairer face

And take on a dusky haze

Hide in the dark of the night

Seek out my lover’s embrace

A shyness shackles my feet

A desire says go and meet

A shyness shackles my feet

A desire says go and meet

Someone tell me what to do

Move on or meekly retreat

I’ll forsake this fairer face

And take on a dusky haze

Hide in the dark of the night

Seek out my lover’s embrace

Moon, a voyeur in the skies

Watches with unblinking eyes

Moon, a voyeur in the skies

Watches with unblinking eyes

May you wane and fade away

Laugh not at my lonely sighs

I’ll forsake this fairer face

And take on a dusky haze

Hide in the dark of the night

Seek out my lover’s embrace

In love if you want to gain

You will have to face some pain

In love if you want to gain

You will have to face some pain

Heart where are you taking me

After driving me insane

I’ll forsake this fairer face

And take on a dusky haze

Hide in the dark of the night

Seek out my lover’s embrace

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Mora Gora Ang Lai Le from Bandini

Mora gora ang lai le

Mohe shaam rang dai de

Chhup jaaungi raat hi me

Mohe pi kaa sang dai de

Mora gora ang lai le

Mohe shaam rang dai de

Chhup jaaungi raat hi me

Mohe pi kaa sang dai de

Ek laaj roke paiyaan

Ek moh kheenche baiyaan

Ek laaj roke paiyaan

Ek moh kheenche baiyaan

Jaaun kidhar na jaanun

Hum kaa koi bataai de

Mora gora ang lai le

Mohe shaam rang dai de

Chhup jaaungi raat hi me

Mohe pi kaa sang dai de

Badari hataa ke chandaa

Chup ke se jhaanke chandaa

Badari hataa ke chandaa

Chup ke se jhaanke chandaa

Tohe raahu laage bairi

Muskaaye ji jalaai ke

Mora gora ang lai le

Mohe shaam rang dai de

Chhup jaaungi raat hi me

Mohe pi kaa sang dai de

Kuchh kho diyaa hai paai ke

Kuchh paa liyaa gavaai ke

Kuchh kho diyaa hai paai ke

Kuchh paa liyaa gavaai ke

Kahaan le chalaa hai manvaa

Mohe baanvari banaai ke

Mora gora ang lai le

Mohe shaam rang dai de

Chhup jaaungi raat hi me

Mohe pi kaa sang dai de

Meanings of Some Difficult Words and Phrases

Badari = Clouds

Raahu = The demon in Hindu folklore that is said to eat the moon during eclipses

Manvaa = A colloquial word for mind

Baanvari = Mad in love

The Literal English Translation of the Lyrics of Mora Gora ang Lai Le

Take away my fair toned body

And give me a dusky colour

I will hide in the dark of the night

Give me the company of my lover

A shame (of getting caught) shackles my feet

A yearning (to meet my lover) tugs at my arms

I don’t know where I should go

Someone please guide me

The moon parts the clouds

And quietly peeps at me

May Raahu eat you up

You are smiling (at my dilemma) after igniting my passion

I have lost something to gain something

I have gained something after losing something

Where has my mind taken me

After driving me insane in love

Translated Akaash Ke Us Paar Lata’s Ode to Virat Kohli

Akaash Ke Us Paar: Lata Mangeshkar Dedication to Virat Kohli

Meta Description:  Akaash Ke Us Paar is a Lata Mangeshkar song she dedicated to Virat Kohli on his match winning double century. I bring this translation on Virat’s retirement.

Setting the Background for Translating Akaash Ke Us Paar Bhi

Today, Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket, drawing the curtain on a remarkable chapter in Indian cricket history. At the peak of his powers in 2016, while serving as India’s Test captain, Kohli delivered a memorable performance with a match-winning double century against England.
So profound was the impact of his achievement that the legendary Lata Mangeshkar dedicated a special song to him—“Akaash Ke Us Paar Bhi”—celebrating his triumphs and encouraging him to reach even greater heights. The song was from her 1963 album Mere Watan Je Logon.
Gulzar has not written this song for any Bollywood movie. The vintage Gulzar lyrics include the title of a Rabindranath Tagore poem, Ekala Chalo that translates as Go Ahead Alone telling us that it can get lonely at the top. My translation includes a fair degree of transcreation to maintain the lyricism of the song so I have included a literal translation as well.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Akaash Ke Us Paar Bhi

Beyond the skies extends another sky

Beyond the skies extends another sky

Through the skies like flowing time you fly

Flow freely just like the lofty winds above

Beyond the skies extends another sky

Inundate the world with rain showers sweet

Inundate the world with rain showers sweet

Let the oceans swirl beneath your stolid feet

Fill up the seas but do not expend yourself

Beyond the skies extends another sky

Beyond the skies extends another sky

Through the skies like flowing time you fly

Flow freely just like the lofty winds above

Beyond the skies extends another sky

Heroes will come heroes will go it’s the norm

Heroes will come heroes will go it’s the norm

But like the changing seasons you move on

Leave the pack behind and move on alone

Beyond the skies extends another sky

Beyond the skies extends another sky

Through the skies like flowing time you fly

Flow freely just like the lofty winds above

Beyond the skies extends another sky

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Akaash Ke Us Paar Bhi

Akaash ke us paar bhi akaash hai

Akaash ke us paar bhi akaash hai

Akaash pe bahate samay ki tarah

Bahate raho jaise bahe ye hawa

Akaash ke us paar bhi akaash hai

Jharate raho baadal jhare jis tarah

Jharate raho baadal jhare jis tarah

Dariya mude pairon tale jis tarah

Saagar men bhi gir ke kabhi khaali n ho

Akaash ke us paar bhi akaash hai

Akaash ke us paar bhi akaash hai

Akaash pe bahate samay ki tarah

Bahate raho jaise bahe ye hawa

Akaash ke us paar bhi akaash hai

Ana bhi hai, jaana bhi hai, har dafa

Ana bhi hai, jaana bhi hai, har dafa

Chalate raho, mausam chale jis tarah

Koi nahin aye agar ekala chalo

Akaash ke us paar bhi akaash hai

Akaash ke us paar bhi akaash hai

Akaash pe bahate samay ki tarah

Bahate raho jaise bahe ye hawa

Akaash ke us paar bhi akaash hai

The Literal English Translation of the Lyrics of Akaash Ke Us Paar Bhi

There is a sky beyond the one we see

On the sky like flowing time

Keep flowing, like this wind flows

Keep sending showers like the clouds do

Like the oceans churn beneath your feet

Even after filling the seas do not let yourself be empty

You have to come you have to go every time

Keep moving like the seasons do

If no one joins you then walk alone
