Translation of Rangi Sari Hit Dance Song from Jugjugg Jeeyo

Rangi Sari – Translation of Thumri Converted to Dance Song

Meta Description:  Rangi Sari is a traditional thumri recited by exponents like Malini Awasthi. It has been converted into a Bollywood song. Enjoy the translation of the fusion.

The Background of Rangi Sari

Rangi Sari is a timeless thumri that was revived by the renowned classical artist Shobha Gurtu. Since then, it has been embraced by numerous classical singers, as well as folk performers like Malini Awasthi and film music artists such as Rekha Bhardwaj. The thumri made its Bollywood debut in the movie Gulaab Gang. Later, the song was modernized by Kavita and Kanishk Seth, who preserve the integrity of the thumri form while infusing it with elements of contemporary dance music. Its latest incarnation was in the movie Jugjugg Jeeyo, where it was reimagined as a vibrant dance track performed by Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani. While purists of classical music might take issue with this fusion, it represents a dynamic blend of tradition and modernity. In fact, such fusions form an effective method of introducing young Indian audiences, both within the country and abroad, to their cultural roots.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Rangi Sari

My scarf I have embellished with bright pink dyes

My scarf I have embellished with bright pink dyes

My suitor beckons with mischief in his eyes

My suitor beckons with mischief in his eyes

My suitor

Have embellished oho

Have embellished

My scarf I have embellished with bright pink dyes

My scarf I have embellished with bright pink dyes

My suitor beckons with mischief in his eyes

My suitor beckons with mischief in his eyes

Oh please go away

Oh please go away

Oh please go away

Don’t lure me with promises

You’ll have to wait a while I’m not yet world wise

You’ll have to wait a while I’m not yet world wise

My suitor beckons with mischief in his eyes

My suitor beckons with mischief in his eyes

Have embellished

Have embellished

Have embellished

Khali Haath Sham Aayi Hai Gulzar Lyrics Explained As Kajari

Khali Haath Sham Aayi Hai English Translation of Gulzar Song

Meta Description: Khali Haath Sham Aayi Hai is a song from Gulzar’s movie Ijaazat. It has the characteristics of a Kajari. Enjoy the English transcreation to the original track.

Setting the Background for Khali Haath Sham Aayi Hai

Khali Haath Sham Aayi Hai is another haunting track from Ijaazat, this time portraying Sudha as the victim of loneliness. While Khali Haath literally translates to "empty handed," in the context of the song, the emptiness symbolizes a deeper sense of isolation. This metaphor for loneliness is something I have aimed to convey in my transcreation of the lyrics.

There is another crucial nuance that often leads to misinterpretation of the song, which occurs in the line “Paye to mitaye na.” Here, the "na" should not be understood as a negative "no." Instead, it is used as an interjection, a common feature in colloquial Hindi, which makes the line more of a reflective pause than a rejection. Therefore, the presence of “na” does not alter the meaning as one might normally think.

Khali Haath Sham Aayi Hai as a Kajari

"Kajari," a genre steeped in themes of separation, is a well-known tradition in both Bollywood and Indian folk music. Khali Haath Shyam Aayi Hai aligns closely with many of the defining characteristics of the Kajari genre:

  • The song revolves around a woman longing for her absent lover.
  • It includes a reference to darkness, which is typically represented by rain clouds in Kajaris. In this case, however, the darkness is portrayed through the night.
  • Kajaris often evoke the image of tears. Here, the woman’s sorrow is so profound that her tears have long since dried up.

However, Khali Haath Shyam Aayi Hai also departs from some traditional elements of the genre:

  • There is no mention of kohl or kajal, which are commonly symbolic in Kajaris.
  • The lyrics are written in contemporary Hindi, rather than using a regional dialect or archaic expressions often found in traditional Kajari songs.

These subtle shifts set this song apart from conventional Kajaris, even as it retains the genre's core emotional essence.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Ruaan

It is lonely this evening

O! It is lonely this evening

And lonelier it will end

It is lonely this evening

Today too he has not come

Today too he has not come

There’ll be no love no friend

It is lonely this evening

And lonelier it will end

It is lonely this evening

Again, there were no tears

The crying eyes remained dry

Again, there were no tears

The crying eyes remained dry

Desolate is the night sky

Desolate is the night sky

Desolate it will end

It is lonely this evening

There’ll be no love no friend

It is lonely this evening

The darkness of the night

Will someone make it light

The darkness of the night

Will someone make it light

If it is not brightened now

If it is not brightened now

Then darker it will end

It is lonely this evening

There’ll be no love no friend

It is lonely this evening

Today too he has not come

Today too he has not come

There’ll be no love no friend

It is lonely this evening

And lonelier it will end

It is lonely this evening

Khali haath shaam aayi hai

O khali haath shaam aayi hai

Khali haath jaayegi

Khali haath shaam aayi hai

Aaj bhi na aaya koi

Khali laut jaayegi

Khali haath shaam aayi hai

Khali haath jaayegi

Khali haath shaam aayi hai

Aaj bhi na aaye aansoo

Aaj bhi na bheege naina

Aaj bhi na aaye aansoo

Aaj bhi na bheege naina

Aaj bhi yeh kori raina

Aaj bhi yeh kori raina

Kori laut jaayegi

Khali haath shaam aayi hai

Khali haath jaayegi

Khali haath shaam aayi hai

Raat ki siyahi koi

Paye to mitaye na

Raat ki siyahi koi

Paye to mitaye na

Aaj na mitayi to yeh

Aaj na mitayi to yeh

Kal bhi laut aayegi

Khali haath shaam aayi hai

Khali haath jaayegi

Khali haath shaam aayi hai

Aaj bhi na aaya koi

Aaj bhi na aaya koi

Khali laut jaayegi

Khali haath shaam aayi hai

Khali haath jaayegi

Khali haath shaam aayi hai

The Literal English Translation of the Lyrics of Khali Haath Sham Aayi Hai

Khali haath shaam aayi hai

Empty-handed the evening has come

Khali haath jaayegi

Empty-handed it will go

Aaj bhi na aaya koi

Today too no one has come

Khali laut jaayegi

Empty-handed it will return

Aaj bhi na aaye aansoo

Today too there were no tears

Aaj bhi na bheege naina

Today too the eyes weren’t moist

Aaj bhi yeh kori raina

Today too the night is bleak

Kori laut jaayegi

Bleak it will return

Raat ki siyahi koi

Ink of the night if anyone

Paye to mitaye na

Finds then erase it

Aaj na mitayi to yeh

Today if it is nor erased then

Kal bhi laut aayegi

Tomorrow it will return

Mera Kuchh Samaan Translation and Explanation of Gulzar Song

Mera Kuchh Samaan – Explanation of Gulzar Poetry from Ijaazat

Meta Description:  Mera Kuchh Samaan is a song from Ijaazat screened on Anuradha Patel. Gulzar won the Best Lyricist Filmfare Award for this. Enjoy the poetic English translation.

Setting the Background for Mera Kuchh Samaan

Some of Gulzar’s film lyrics ascend to the level of metaphysical poetry, and Mera Kuchh Samaan stands out as a prime example. While dividing tangible assets after a couple’s separation may be a matter of negotiation, the emotional possession of shared memories is a far more complex and elusive issue. In this song, Maya is parting from her lover and asks him to "return" some of the intimate moments they have shared, seeking closure on their relationship. She refers to these moments as “mera kuchh samaan,” or "some of my possessions," and wishes to hold exclusive ownership of them for the rest of her life.
Incidentally, Mera Kuchh Samaan is the title track of the movie and gets its name from the consent that Maya asks for in the concluding verse.

The Poetic English Translation of the Lyrics of Mera Kuchh Samaan

Some of my possessions are still lying with you

Some of my possessions are still lying with you

Ho! They include a few rainy days from the monsoon months

O! And there is one night of mine rolled up in a letter

Extinguish that night return those possessions of mine

Extinguish that night return those possessions of mine

Some of my possessions are still lying with you

Ho! They include a few rainy days from the monsoon months

Ho! And there is one night of mine rolled up in a letter

Extinguish that night return those possessions of mine

Autumn is here, isn’t it

Ho! There is the rustle of leaves falling in autumn

A sound I once wore as earrings and then returned

That bare leafless autumn branch is still shivering

Fell that branch, return those possessions of mine

Fell that branch, return those possessions of mine

Under one umbrella when each of us was half wet in the rains

Under one umbrella when each of us was half wet in the rains

One half was dry one half was wet, the dryness I have brought with me

The moistness of mine is perhaps lying near the bed

Send that to me, return those possessions of mine

One hundred and sixteen full moons, and a mole on your left shoulder

One hundred and sixteen full moons, and a mole on your left shoulder

The fragrance of fresh henna, some complaints make-believe

And some false promises made, please remind me

Return them all, return those possessions of mine

Return them all, return those possessions of mine

Consent to this one thing please

When I do bury all these

There may I also rest in peace

There may I also rest in peace

The Original Hindi Lyrics of Mera Kuchh Samaan from Ijaazat

Mera kuchh saamaan tumhaare paas pada hai

Mera kuchh saamaan tumhaare paas pada hai

Ho sawan ke kuchh bheege-bheege din rakhe hai

O aur mere ek khat main lipati raat padi hai

Wo raat bujha do mera wo saamaan lauta do

Wo raat bujha do mera wo saamaan lauta do

Mera kuchh saamaan tumhaare paas pada hai

Ho sawan ke kuchh bheege-bheege din rakhe hai

Ho aur mere ek khat main lipati raat padi hai

Wo raat bujha do mera wo saamaan lauta do

Patjhad hai kuchh, hai na

Ho patjhad main kuchh patton ke girane ki aahat

Kaanon main ek baar pahan ke lautai thi

Patjhad ki wo shaakh abhi tak kaanp rahi hai

Wo shaakh gira do, mera wo saamaan lauta do

Wo shaakh gira do, mera wo saamaan lauta do

Ek akeli chhatari main jab aadhe-aadhe bheeg rahe the

Ek akeli chhatari main jab aadhe-aadhe bheeg rahe the

Aadhe sookhe, aadhe geele, sookha to main le aayi thi

Geela mun shaayad bistar ke paas pada ho

Wo bhijwa do mera wo saamaan lauta do

Ek sau solah chaand ki raatein, ek tumhare kaandhe ka til

Ek sau solah chaand ki raatein, ek tumhare kaandhe ka til

Geeli mehandi ki khushboo, jhuthmooth ke shikave kuchh

Jhuthmooth ke vaade bhi sab yaad kara do

Sab bhijwa do mera wo saamaan lauta do

Sab bhijwa do mera wo saamaan lauta do

Ek ijaazat de do bas

Jab isko dafanaaungi

Main bhi vahin so jaungi

Main bhi vahin so jaungi

Explanation of the Poetry in the Lyrics of Mera Kuchh Samaan

"O! Aur mere ek khat mein lipati raat padi hai"

This line likely refers to a night Maya spent alone, during which she wrote a letter to her lover, pouring out her feelings of loneliness. Upon his return, she may have given him the letter, sharing the emotional weight of that night with him.

"Wo raat bujha do"

Here, she asks her lover to extinguish the memory of that night from his mind, so that she can retain exclusive ownership of that experience. It's a plea to preserve the emotional integrity of that time for herself alone.

"Patjhad hai kuchh"

The image of autumn leaves falling evokes a romantic setting the couple once shared. For reasons unknown, one particular image of a bare branch has remained imprinted in her memory.

"Wo shaakh gira do"

Maya again uses a metaphor, asking her lover to bring down the branch, symbolizing her desire to take full ownership of that memory. She wishes to preserve it solely in her heart.

"Ek akeli chhatari main"

This line speaks to another intimate experience they shared, beautifully captured in the film. The image of a solitary umbrella evokes a moment of connection.

"…sookha to main le aayi thi"

Maya suggests that she has already carried half of this memory with her, but she asks for the other half—lying near the bed—so that she can complete the experience and make it entirely her own.

"Ek sau solah chaand ki raatein"

The mention of 116 moonlit nights carries no specific literary or cultural significance. Instead, it emphasizes the passage of time, with Maya having kept a mental record of every moment spent with her lover. This figure is symbolic of how precious and unforgettable those shared nights have been to her.

Kissik English Translation of Hindi Version of Pushpa 2 Song

Kissik – Karaoke Translation of Pushpa 2 Sreeleela Item Song

Meta Description:  Kissik is an awaited item number in the to be released multilingual Pushpa 2: The Rule, featuring Allu Arjun and Sreeleela. Learn the meaning of “kissik”.

The Hype, the Controversy, and the Meaning of “Kissik”

Pushpa 2: The Rule, one of the most anticipated films of 2024, is the sequel to the massive hit Pushpa: The Rise. In a last-minute decision, the filmmakers chose to add an item song, aiming to capture the same magic as the iconic Oo Bolega from the first film. Initially, Bollywood’s reigning queen Shraddha Kapoor was considered for the role, but her high asking price led the team to cast Sreeleela, who has gained recognition for her success in similar roles.

Teasers and lyrical videos have already dropped, and early reactions are mixed, with some expressing disappointment. The comparison to Samantha’s performance in Oo Bolega was always going to be challenging, and it seems the new song is struggling to live up to that legacy. The lyrics, which feature an abundance of the words "kiss," "kissa," and "kissik," seem to reference the sound made when a photograph is taken, likely alluding to a "click." The choice of the word "kissik" over "click" appears intentional, possibly designed to evoke a subliminal connection to sexuality. However, the full context will only be clear once the official dance video is released.

The song, though an "item number," seems to carry a social message, similar to Oo Bolega. It addresses the dangers of sharing intimate photos online, warning about the potential harm to a person’s reputation—especially if the images are morphed or shared with malicious intent. Pushpa 2: The Rule is a multilingual film, and this translation is based on the Hindi lyrics of the song.
